Daily vs total-data eSIM: compare allowance and trip cost
The same number of gigabytes can behave differently. Start with when you use data, then compare what each actual plan buys.

Can you move data between days?
A total-data allowance is shared over the purchased validity. With an illustrative 7 GB total plan, using 3 GB on one day leaves 4 GB for the remaining days. A 1 GB-per-day plan limits each day separately; multiplying its daily allowance by seven does not make it a flexible 7 GB pool.
Check the daily reset rule on the selected plan. Calendar-day and rolling rules can treat a late arrival differently. Do not assume unused daily data carries forward unless the plan explicitly says so.
Use your busiest day to compare
Maps and messages may fit a smaller allowance, while video uploads or a laptop hotspot can concentrate usage on one day. Estimate that day as well as the whole trip; these examples describe a budgeting method, not measured consumption.
A total allowance can suit uneven usage. A daily allowance can suit a steady routine when every day fits its quota. Read the after-quota behavior too: continuing at a reduced speed and having data cut off are different outcomes.
Compare the whole purchase price
For a seven-day trip, enter seven as the trip length, then check the actual duration you must buy. A daily plan might only offer a longer tier. Use that tier’s full price, rather than its displayed daily rate multiplied by seven.
The 7, 15 and 30-day examples on Japan and other destination pages show a current purchasable allowance, purchased validity and total price. Follow the row link and check the selected plan before buying.
Check the remaining service rules
Compare local networks, validity start, speed limits and application restrictions alongside data. The cheapest price cannot compensate for a missing stop or an application restriction that matters to your trip.
Use data budgeting to estimate usage, then find your destination. Check device compatibility before purchase and the start event before installing.
