Choosing an eSIM for New Zealand

All 67 plans here use One NZ. New Zealand's other two networks are Spark and 2degrees; all three shut down 3G in early 2026, so calls on a local SIM need 4G calling (VoLTE).

None of these plans exits in New Zealand right now: 60 state an exit in UK or Poland, so sites limited to New Zealand IP addresses may not open.

Another 7 don't state an exit.

Large parts of the backcountry, many tramping tracks and some stretches of the South Island highways have no mobile signal on any network. Download offline maps before you drive.

About eSIMs for New Zealand

What do I need before flying to New Zealand?

Visa-waiver passports need an NZeTA, from NZD 17 (cheaper in the app than on the website), plus the NZD 100 International Visitor Levy for most travellers. Australian citizens need neither. Everyone, including New Zealanders, completes the free New Zealand Traveller Declaration, from 24 hours before the trip starts.

I'm coming from Australia on a Chinese passport. Do I need a visa?

Not if you fly directly from Australia holding an eligible Australian visa: you can use an NZeTA instead, until further notice. Transiting through Australia doesn't count.

Which operators will my phone use in New Zealand?

One NZ. These plans use only this network in New Zealand.

Where in New Zealand can I use it?

Anywhere the plan’s networks have signal, including Auckland, Queenstown, Wellington; rural and mountain areas depend on local coverage.

Is 5G supported?

Yes. Operators here are listed with 5G; each plan's networks show which.

What happens when the data runs out?

It depends on the plan: some keep a usable speed of 1 Mbps; others drop to 128 Kbps / 384 Kbps / 512 Kbps, which is enough for messaging; others stop data.

When does the validity start?

It starts when the eSIM first connects to a network. You can install it before you go.

Can I use a hotspot to share data in New Zealand?

16 of these plans state personal hotspot support, so you can share data with a laptop or travel companions. It comes out of this eSIM’s allowance. Look for “Personal hotspot” in the plan details.

Can I install the same eSIM on a second phone?

No. Each QR code installs once. If you delete the eSIM or reset the phone, it can't be installed again, and once it has connected to a network it can't be refunded.

Can I top up data or extend validity?

Some plans add data, some add days, and some can't be topped up; each plan says which. Top up from the eSIM in My eSIMs. There's nothing new to install.

Are these prices tax inclusive?

Yes. The listed price is the final price.
