Install a travel eSIM on iPhone

Before you scan

Check your exact model, purchase region and carrier lock on the device compatibility page. Phones with the same model name can differ by purchase region.

If the plan starts when installed, install it after you arrive. For mainland-China iPhones that support eSIM, Apple requires a non-mainland eSIM to be installed outside mainland China with Location Services on.

Add the eSIM

1. Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service) → Add eSIM, then choose Use QR Code. Menu labels vary by iOS language and version.
2. Scan the QR code from your order email or My eSIMs and follow the download prompts.
3. Name the new line “Simvito” or your destination so you can tell it apart from your usual line.

The QR code is on this iPhone

• Install directly

  On this iPhone, open the eSIM in My eSIMs, tap Install eSIM and follow the system prompts. No scan needed.

• From the email or a web page

  iOS 17.4 or later. In the order email, or on the order page in your browser, touch and hold the QR code and tap Add eSIM.

• Enter it manually

  Under Add eSIM → Use QR Code, choose Enter Details Manually and paste the SM-DP+ address and activation code into their own fields, exactly as shown.

Choose which line uses data

At your destination, change these in Settings → Cellular. This eSIM connects abroad through partner networks, so it won’t load data with roaming off; the plan is prepaid and roaming costs nothing extra.

With roaming and data switching off on your usual line, your home carrier doesn’t bill you for data. You can keep that number on for calls and texts; those follow your home carrier’s roaming rates.

Turn off Wi-Fi and test

Turn off Wi-Fi for a moment and open a webpage. The first connection can take a few minutes. If nothing loads, check that this eSIM is the data line, that you’re in a covered destination and that the plan hasn’t expired, then work through the troubleshooting checklist.

Don’t delete the eSIM to reinstall it; a QR code installs only once. If the phone says the code is already used, or installation fails, contact support.
